WHY 80PERCENT GHANAIAN MUSIC WONT WORK

Domestication is a sure way to grow patronizing home-grown products but now this will not work for the protest for 80% Ghanaian music to fill out Airwaves.
This is why:
1. For the purpose of business, Media Houses are keen on contents that attract traffic and withglobalization, if a media house wades off to serve Ghanaians what is on the world front, it will lose its global listeners. This way 50-50 is a the best option NOT 80-20.
Mind you, today’s youth is very global and the youth in Ghana forms 51% of the country’s population.
2Lack of correct structure and policy to back the protest. If it’s not a government backing policy then media houses can’t be obliged by Artiste Managers, Artistes or Music Producers to play their songs. This should be a dialogue between Musigha and National Media Commission (Government) not bloggers and Media Houses.
The big question, how do you measure songs played, to know whether it reaches 80% or not?

3. What’s the definition of Ghanaian Music? One sang by Ghanaian Artiste, Produced by Ghanaian Producer or one released in Ghana???
For instance, Should songs by Ghanaian born American based Vic Mensa on Jay Z’s record label be classified as a Ghanaian song? Is Mr Eazi a Ghanaian Musician? Is his music Ghanaian music?
4. LiveFm has started a similar protest by playing 100% Ghanaian music on Wednesdays. Though a good initiative their competitors will be reluctant to emulate. “African unneccessary competition”
5. If every country practices this policy, then our Musicians won’t easily go international then, moreover our market here is small. We should not be selfish. Let’s start small.
N/B If our Artistes make good songs, the hustle will be easier. We’ve seen talents break from the underground into mainstream because their songs were good. Eg: Mr Eazi, Wisa, Article Wan, Adomaa, Bisa Kdei et al.By and large, I suggest a 50% Ghanaian Music to be pushed by MUSIGHA through government to make it a policy. via #iRedEntertainment
